There was an interesting blog post on the New York Times website on 12/28/11 about the benefits of reading aloud to children vs. using e-readers. When reading to your children, you should always give them the opportunity to ask questions and to make comments. Reading together is such an engaging and wonderful activity. While e-readers certainly have their place, they can never replace interaction with a real person.
The Today Show on NBC did a segment on 12/12/11 about the phenomenon of "vocal fry" (also known as "glottal fry") in young women. Vocal fry is a vocally abusive behavior and should be avoided.

This is an open event for voice students of Casey Oliver as well as other singers in the community. Students should be prepared to sing one song from memory. Students must have original (not photocopied) sheet music for the accompanist. Students will have the opportunity to sing their song selections. Feedback will be provided by Casey Oliver, and then some vocal work on the piece will take place. Finally, students will have the opportunity to perform their songs again.
