Mission

The mission of OSLPVA is to provide excellent clinical speech-language pathology services and vocal arts education to the Catholic schools and parishes in and around the Carmichael area of Sacramento, California.  OSLPVA is a philanthropic, environmentally responsible and replicable practice that is responsive to the needs of its clients and the greater Catholic community.

Mission Statement for Speech Pathology Services

To help bridge the gap between Catholic schools and available community speech-language pathology services by:

  • offering screenings on Catholic school campuses to help parents decide if their child demonstrates a need for speech-language pathology services
  • facilitating access to free or low-cost assessment and treatment options for families
  • offering comprehensive speech-language assessment and therapy services at local Catholic schools for families that need more intensive or more convenient services than the public schools, community clinics or their insurance plans can provide
  • combining traditional speech therapy with telepractice to facilitate consistent practice of skills learned in therapy and to facilitate parent training and communication with therapist
  • assisting students, families and school staff by providing consulting and therapeutic support on the Catholic school campus to maximize benefits of outside therapies a student may be receiving
  • bringing families, teachers, administration, and other staff together for the educational planning for students with speech and language concerns
  • connecting the student's speech-language therapy goals to academic curriculum, liturgy, family life and daily routine to expedite carryover of learned therapy skills
  • promoting dialogue about the importance of well-developed speech and language skills in all Catholic school students and educating parents and school staff about how speech and language problems impact academic achievement
  • advocating for early identification of speech and language delays/disorders and helping families access services for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers
  • serving as a model practice and encouraging other speech pathologists to reach out to Catholic schools in need of service providers

Mission Statement for Vocal Arts Services

To nurture the health and beauty of the voices of liturgical musicians by:

  • educating liturgical musicians about the anatomy and physiology of the singing voice, vocal health and hygiene, healthy singing and speaking technique, and voice disorders
  • providing singing voice training to individuals and groups
  • providing singing and/or speaking voice assessments and therapy for liturgical musicians with voice problems or voice disorders
  • helping liturgical musicians  evaluate their vocal strengths and limitations and helping them discern how to best serve their music ministries
  • encouraging speech pathologists, voice teachers, and other voice experts to reach out to Catholic parishes in their communities by providing speaking and singing voice assessments, therapy, voice training and education
